- If you own a flat within the Southway area, you are a leaseholder
- This means you bought the right to live in your property for a fixed number of years
- If you are unsure if you are a leaseholder, please contact us.
Southway is the freeholder of your property.
This means:
- We are your landlord
- We have a legal duty to make sure you meet the responsibilities of your lease
- We must maintain and repair the building your home is in
- It’s also our job to maintain and repair all shared areas, grounds and services
- A lease is a private contract between the leaseholder and the owner of the building
- Your lease is with us, Southway Housing Trust
- The lease sets out your rights and responsibilities
- It’s important you understand these
- Keep your lease safe
- If you have lost your lease, you can pay us for a copy, or you can contact the Land Registry
- Some leaseholders pay charges for extra services, particularly in blocks of flats, estates, or sheltered housing schemes
- These charges are to cover your share of services such as repairs and maintenance in shared areas
- Service charges are calculated every year
- Find more information on service charges here
